This is the first in a series of reports produced by CAST providing vertical-specific benchmarks on the structural quality of IT applications developed in different software technologies. This report benchmarks the structural quality of applications in the Financial Services industry.
This benchmark was developed from 430 applications consisting of 241 MLOC (millions of lines of code), distributed across 55 organizations that include Consumer Finance institutions and Investment Banks.
While implementing Agile for voluminous applications may cause more security defects than other development methodologies, small development teams globally deliver the best code quality. Developing highly secure applications seems to be a challenge for teams above 20 people, while quality is globally better balanced in very small teams.
